This page explains, in plain English, what happens to the information you enter into this tool.

Information you provide

When you use the assessment, you answer questions about your immigration profile — things like your date of birth, language test scores, education, work history, and which province or territory you're interested in. You choose what to enter; nothing is collected about you before you start typing.

Browser storage — what stays on your device

While you're filling out the assessment: your in-progress answers are saved to your browser's local storage on your own device, so a refresh or an accidental tab close doesn't lose your progress. It is never sent anywhere until you submit.

Submitting the assessment removes this saved draft from local storage entirely. Choosing “Start over” clears your answers back to a blank starting point, but — depending on your browser — an empty draft entry may technically remain in local storage afterward rather than being removed outright; it no longer contains any of your previously entered answers either way.

After you submit: your results are held in your browser's session storage — scoped to that one browser tab — so the results page can display them. Session storage is automatically cleared when you close that tab or browser window. It does not carry over to a new tab, a new device, or a later visit.

Both of these are ordinary browser storage mechanisms, not cookies, and neither is ever transmitted to any third party.

What is transmitted to our server

When you click “See my results,” your answers are sent once, over an encrypted connection, to our evaluation service so it can compute your results — but only if that request is allowed to return results. Pathway results require a purchase: if you have not signed in with a completed purchase, the service refuses the request before it parses your answers and does not compute or return pathway results. Your unfinished answers stay in this browser until you unlock and submit again.

Based on our review of the current codebase, an allowed submission is not written to a database or otherwise stored on our servers after your results are returned — the evaluation happens and the response is sent back without a persistent record of your answers being created. Our server logs record operational details only (which endpoint was called, how long it took, and whether it succeeded) — your answers, documents, and financial figures are explicitly excluded from those logs by design.

Hosting and infrastructure

This application runs on third-party hosting infrastructure, as almost all web applications do. That infrastructure provider may, in the ordinary course of serving any web request, process your IP address, basic request metadata (such as timing and the page requested), and security logs used to keep the service running reliably and to detect abuse. This is standard infrastructure-level processing, separate from the assessment content described above.

Rate limiting

To reduce automated abuse, this application may temporarily use your IP address to count requests over short time windows. This counting is held only in server memory for that purpose and is not a permanent record — it is not written to a database and is not linked to your assessment answers.

Cookies

The public assessment, results, and glossary pages do not set any cookies. A cookie is used solely to keep an administrator signed in to the internal admin panel; it is never set for a visitor using the assessment tool.

Optional applicant accounts, when an operator has enabled them and you choose to sign in, set a second httpOnly session cookie after you follow an email sign-in link. That cookie is not used for tracking, analytics, or advertising. Accounts are off by default; with them off, only the admin cookie is ever set, and only on the admin login route.

Analytics

This application does not currently use any analytics, tracking, or advertising service of any kind.

Data residency

Where your information is processed depends on the hosting infrastructure this application runs on at any given time. We do not promise that processing takes place exclusively in Canada or any other specific location.

Retention

The application itself does not retain a copy of your submitted assessment or its results after your results are returned to you. The only assessment data that persists is what your own browser keeps, exactly as described above, and that is entirely under your control — clearing your browser data removes it.

If you create an account, we retain the email address, consent, and session records described below until you delete the account. If paid results are enabled and you complete a purchase, we also retain a purchase entitlement record for this account — not your card number. If you later choose to save an assessment, we also retain that saved profile and result snapshot until you delete it or delete the account. If you choose to track a pathway, we also retain that tracked pathway, its checklist state, and any note you write on it until you stop tracking it or delete the account. Deletion is a hard delete of those rows.

Security

All traffic to this site is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). The evaluation endpoint applies input validation and rate limiting to reduce misuse. No system is perfectly secure, and we encourage you not to enter information you consider highly sensitive.

Completing the assessment still does not store a copy by default. If you have signed in and explicitly choose to save an assessment, that snapshot is stored in the dedicated applicant database described below, not in the government-data / maintenance database, and only you can read or delete it.

Payments

Viewing pathway results requires a signed-in account and a completed one-time purchase. The price is shown before you are sent to pay, and the charge happens once — it is not a subscription and does not renew.

Payment is processed by Stripe (cards worldwide, including 3-D Secure). We do not store card numbers on our servers. Stripe receives the payment details you enter on Stripe Checkout; we receive a checkout session identifier so we can record that this account has paid.

Completing the questionnaire does not require payment. Unpaid answers stay in this browser. After a successful purchase you submit the same answers again to receive results. Saving those results to your account remains optional and happens only if you choose Save.

Applicant accounts

Completing the questionnaire does not require an account. You are not required to create an account to fill it in: unpaid answers stay in this browser. Viewing pathway results requires a signed-in account and a one-time purchase. Submitting the questionnaire still does not write your answers to a database. Saved profiles and assessment snapshots are stored only if you are signed in and you explicitly choose to save them.

If you opt in, we send a one-time sign-in link to the email address you enter and keep that address, your consent to this policy, and session records in a dedicated applicant database — not in the government-data / maintenance database. If you save an assessment, the saved profile inputs and result snapshot are stored in that same applicant database. Sign-in uses a magic link, not a password we store. On account deletion we hard-delete those rows, including any saved assessments, tracked pathways and purchase records; we do not keep an anonymized stub.

Tracked pathways. If you choose to track a pathway from one of your saved assessments, we store which pathway you tracked, the pathway name and classification as they stood at that moment, the status you set, which checklist items you have ticked, and any note you write. Notes are free text you control: nobody else reads them, we do not analyse them, and they never change your assessment results. Tracking is your own record of what you are pursuing — it is not an application, it is not advice, and it does not submit anything to any government. Tracked pathways are included in your data export and are hard-deleted when you stop tracking a pathway or delete your account.

Update notices. If you track a pathway, this tool compares what your saved assessment recorded against what it records today, and shows you when an official page behind that pathway has been re-checked or your assessment has aged. Those notices are worked out fresh each time you look — they are not stored. What we do store is your own choices about them: whether you want them shown in the app, whether you would want them by email, and which specific notices you dismissed and when. No update emails are sent today; that preference is recorded for a feature that does not exist yet, and the only email this service sends is your sign-in link. These notices tell you something is worth re-reading. They are not a statement that a government rule changed, that your result would be different, or anything about whether you qualify. Your preferences and dismissals are included in your data export and are hard-deleted with your account.

You can download a copy of the account data we hold, or delete the account, from the Account page after you sign in. Contact details for privacy questions are published on the Contact page.

Your rights and choices

  • You can stop at any time without submitting anything.
  • You can clear your browser's local/session storage at any time to remove your in-progress draft or last results.
  • You are not required to create an account to complete the questionnaire. Viewing pathway results requires an account and a purchase.
  • Submitted assessments are not retained on our servers unless you signed in and chose to save them. Anonymous or unpaid submissions still have no assessment record for us to retrieve, correct, or delete. If you created an account, you can export or hard-delete that account data — including any purchase record and saved assessments — from the Account page.
